BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Dr. John Potomski, Jr., medical director at Life Care Center of Melbourne and clinical coordinator for Brevard Geriatrics, was honored as the Southeast Division Physician of the Year for Life Care Centers of America during a ceremony held at the American Medical Directors Association Annual Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 16.
“Physicians play a pivotal role in the care of our residents,” said Beecher Hunter, Life Care president, “and we are proud to honor those who stand out in their commitment and their compassion to ensure the health and well-being of those entrusted to them.”
Dr. Potomski is the chairman of the Brevard County Commission on Aging and has been a leading medical provider and advocate for residents in Brevard County’s nursing and rehabilitation centers, as well as assisted living facilities, for more than 34 years.
A former Brevard County Medical Society president, Dr. Potomski also often advocates for elder issues in Washington D.C. and Tallahassee.
Founder of the Brevard County Long Term Care Symposium, Dr. Potomski has been the medical director at Life Care Center of Melbourne for the past 14 years.
Last fall, Dr. Potomski produced the 27th Annual Brevard County Long Term Care Symposium, sponsored by the Brevard County Medical Directors Association, which was held at the Hilton Melbourne Rialto.
This was the fourth year that this event has been held during Space Coast Daily Week, which also features the Central Florida Humanitarian Awards and Doctors’ Goodwill Foundation Ambassador Awards.
“I have always felt that educating staff would improve patient/resident care and his Long Term Care Symposium has always been free to all attendees,” said Dr. Potomki.
“This symposium has grown over the years in number of attendees from 80 to almost 500 and the quality of the program has always exceeded the expectations of those in attendance.”
