BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Online purchases from Craigslist, Facebook or other internet classifieds can be risky business.

In some cases, people making these transactions fall victim to a crime.

That’s why the Cocoa Police Department has created an Internet Purchase Exchange Zone at police headquarters, located at 1226 W. King Street.

The east parking lot of the building is a well-lighted area that is under 24-hour video surveillance.

This creates a “safe zone” for online business exchanges.

“When you are conducting business online that requires you to meet strangers to exchange money for goods, the potential is always there for something bad to happen,” said Chief Mike Cantaloupe.

“We wanted to create a safe place for people to make these exchanges in order to reduce the level of fear.”
