League of Women Voters To Present Program That Explains Indian River Lagoon’s Half-Penny Sales Tax at Work

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The League of Women Voters of the Space Coast will host their Timely Topics Luncheon – Indian River Lagoon: Brevard’s Half-Penny Tax at Work and How to Help.
The event will take place on Saturday, May 20 at the Suntree Country Club, located at 1 Country Club Drive. This informational and educational program addresses the efforts being made to restore the Indian River Lagoon and how citizens can help.
Keynote Speakers will include Curt Smith, Brevard County Commissioner (District 4), Chair and the Brevard County Representative and Chair of the IRL Council Board of Directors; Virginia Barker, Director of Brevard County Natural Resource Management Department; and Lorraine Koss, Chair of the Brevard County Save Our Lagoon Citizen Oversight Committee. A Q&A session will follow the presentation.
Organizations that will display work being done to restore the lagoon, as well as offering opportunities for community involvement, will include Blue Life Florida, a Brevard Zoo Partner; Brevard Zoo; Brevard County Natural Resources Management Department; Florida DEP Indian River Lagoon Aquatic Preserves; Florida Wildlife Hospital; Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program; Keep Brevard Beautiful, Lagoon Friendly Lawns Program; Marine Resources Council, Recycle Brevard and UF/IFAS Brevard County Extension (My Brevard Yard Program).
The cost to attend is $20 and the public is invited.
Registration and exhibits will open at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at 12 noon. Advance ticket purchase and menu selection are required, and the RSVP deadline is May 11.
