BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a death investigation after the body of a dead man was found in a pond behind the H&D Roadhouse in the 1800 block of East Merritt Island Causeway.

Investigators have not yet identified the body, but according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, the victim could be that of Richard “Chad” Stevens, 45, who was reported missing Wednesday evening.

“Agents were out here yesterday doing their preliminary investigation,” said Brevard County Sheriff’s Office PIO Tod Goodyear.

“They went back into that area and didn’t observe anybody, but it appears he may have been under the water at that time and recently surfaced.”

Stevens went missing and was last seen at the bar where his cell phone was later found.

According to Goodyear, an autopsy will be conducted before the identity and cause of death of the victim is released.
