Phase II will extend the 1.1-mile boardwalk

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Construction of the second-phase extension of the Brevard Zoo Linear Park will officially kick off on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 8225 N. Wickham Road, in Melbourne.
Phase II will extend the 1.1-mile boardwalk and paved trail an additional 1.93 miles for walking, running and bicycling.
In November 2000, a Parks and Recreation referendum for recreational improvements was approved by voters in South Brevard.
One of those projects was the construction and design of the Brevard Zoo Linear Park, which was done in partnership with the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners, the Brevard Zoo, Space Coast TPO, and A. Duda & Sons Inc. Brevard Zoo operates and maintains the trail.
The first phase was completed in April 2014. Phase II is expected to be completed by the winter of 2019, by D.J. Haycook Construction, and extends the trail to Turtle Mound Road. The project is funded with state and federal dollars through the Florida Department of Transportation and the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization.
