BREVARD COUNTY • PATRICK AIR FORCE BASE, FLORIDA — Citizen Airman Reservist Senior Airman Davey Brinkman, a special mission aviator with the 920th Rescue Wing’s 301st Rescue Squadron, was named 2017 Space Coast Fire Chief’s Association Firefighter of the Year.

Brinkman has served with the Rockledge Fire Station as a paramedic and firefighter for the last decade demonstrating an exemplary level of service and “embodies the meaning of public service by not only serving the city, but also serving his country,” according to SC Fire Chief’s Association.

While serving with the Air Force Reserve last summer, Brinkman was deployed as part of contingent from the 920th RQW deployed to State College, Texas, where he and fellow Airmen rescued 235 people left stranded by Hurricane Harvey’s aftermath in and around the regions of Texas that were affected the most.

From heights up to 180 feet above with low visibility, rain, wind and working around power lines, Brinkman and his team worked long hours hoisting people and their pets out of danger onto a wing HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter, and getting them to safety.

Chief Joseph LaSata, Rockledge FD, and Police Department Public Safety Director, said he was proud of the work that one of his firefighters did during Harvey relief missions.
