Former Eastern Florida State Titan Tommy Romero Traded to Tampa Bay Rays From Seattle

Romero has an 8-4 record with a 2.27 ERA over two seasons
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Former Eastern Florida State College pitcher Tommy Romero was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays organization on Friday.
Romero, who is 3-3 with a 2.45 ERA and 54 strikeouts in nine starts for Class A Clinton in the Seattle Mariners organization was part of a deal with Tampa Bay. Romero and right-handed pitching prospects Andrew Moore head to Tampa Bay in exchange for right-handed pitcher Alex Colome, outfielder Denard Span and cash considerations.
The former Titan ranks seventh in the Midwest League in ERA, fifth in strikeouts and third in strikeouts per nine innings (11.05).
Moore has been added to the 40-man roster and will report to Triple-A Durham.
At Eastern Florida State College, Romero was a first team NJCAA All-American and led NJCAA Division I baseball in strikeouts with 145 and was ninth in ERA with a 1.55 ERA. The Ft. Lauderdale native finished with a 14.03 strikeout per nine rate which is third in the nation and he struck out at least 10 hitters in nine of his 15 starts this season.
Overall, Romero has an 8-4 record with a 2.27 ERA over parts of two seasons with the Mariners organization.
