Panthers posted top time in both the V8 and 2V8 trials

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech men’s rowing team is off to a strong start at the 2019 SIRA Championship Regatta.

The Panthers posted the top time in both the V8 and 2V8 trials as well as garnered the fifth position in the V4 division on Friday afternoon at Melton Hill Lake.

The 2V kicked off the action by qualifying in the top position in the time trials with a time of 5:31.176. Jacksonville has the second best time at 5:33.987 while Delaware (5:34.019) and Notre Dame (5:34.991) round out the top-4.

The varsity four also had a strong showing with the fifth-best time at 6:26.972 to earn a spot in the semifinals. Emory (6:14.402) and Duke (6:23.136) had the two fastest times in the V4 trials.

Continuing the fantastic results from day one at SIRA, the V8 crew claimed the top spot in the semifinal thanks to a time of 5:19.689. Purdue (5:22.359) and Stetson (5:22.840) accounted for the second and third best times in the trial.

The semifinal round at SIRA will begin Saturday morning at 8 a.m. The 2V semi is set to begin at 8:36 a.m. while the V4 retakes the water for its semifinal at 9:18 a.m. The varsity eight semifinal is scheduled for 9:54 a.m.

The finals will commence around noon on Saturday.
