BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Two nonprofit organizations have worked closely with Brevard County Emergency Management throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to receive, unload and distribute Personal Protective Equipment, supplies and food throughout the county.

Team Rubicon is an organization with a volunteer base of military veterans and first responders.

Its Neighbors Helping Neighbors initiative entails rapid emergency response during disasters and humanitarian crises in the United States and around the world.

Rubicon members are working closely with members of Brevard County’s Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), which consists of volunteer organizations that assist in response and recovery from disasters like hurricanes.

VOAD is comprised of mostly faith-based, nonprofit agencies like the Salvation Army, Baptist Disaster Relief, Florida United Methodist Disaster Response and local churches.

In Brevard County, the two groups have been distributing supplies to long-term care facilities, hospitals, and first-responder agencies. The food is distributed to a variety of existing and pandemic-related pop-up food pantries throughout Brevard County.

“These organizations are professional and tactical and are doing amazing work for our county,” Emergency Management Director Kimberly Prosser said.

“They are committed to serving others, and Brevard County Emergency Management is proud to be affiliated with them and to work alongside them.”
