COCOA BEACH POLICE: Rawlings fired one round with a handgun, in the direction of the victim, striking the doorway

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – Clayton K. Rawlings, 28, of Cocoa, was arrested Aug. 24, shortly after 10 p.m., following a violent encounter at Riverview Manor, located at 200 St. Lucie Lane.

According to the Cocoa Beach police, officers responded to a call regarding an individual who said a man with a gun shot at him outside of unit #303.

“Officer Brandon Hatzel was first on-scene and stopped Rawlings, based on the description given, while trying to flee the area in a pickup truck,” aid a Cocoa Beach police spokesperson.

“Rawlings was taken into custody without incident. A firearm was subsequently located in Rawlings’ vehicle.”

Cocoa Beach Police Detective Matt Eastman arrived and assumed the investigation.

“It is alleged that Rawlings waited for the victim, who had been with Rawlings’ ex-girlfriend and followed the victim to his front door,” said a Cocoa Beach spokesperson.

“Rawlings fired one round with a handgun, in the direction of the victim, striking the doorway. The victim was unharmed.”

Rawlings has been charged with Attempted First Degree Premeditated Murder with a Firearm and Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling, transported to the Brevard County Jail, and held on a No Bond status.
