11th-Grader Soreina Fleming is Odyssey Charter School’s First Student Set to Earn Associate’s Degree

Odyssey emphasizes college prep coursework

Odyssey Charter School student Soreina Fleming, who has attended the school since second grade, is on track to become the first 11th-grade student from Odyssey to graduate with her high school diploma and Associate’s Degree from Eastern Florida State College.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Odyssey Charter School student Soreina Fleming, who has attended the school since second grade, is on track to become the first 11th-grade student from Odyssey to graduate with her high school diploma and Associate’s Degree from Eastern Florida State College.

The school emphasizes college preparatory coursework and is a high-performing tuition-free public charter school that includes students from Voluntary Prekindergarten through 12th grades.

As one of the top-performing students in the school’s fourth graduating class, Fleming has maintained a perfect grade point average, both at Odyssey Charter School, as well as Eastern Florida State College, where she took dual enrollment coursework.

This year’s Odyssey class has 68 students and Fleming is in the top 10 with a current GPA of 4.62.

She has served two years as the President of the school’s National Honor Society chapter, two years as vice president of the Student Government Association and two years as the manager for the varsity basketball and volleyball teams.

Fleming is also a member of The National Society of Leadership and Success, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Young Eagles Program Experimental Aircraft Association.

She attends Truth Revealed International Ministries, where she participates in the T.R.I.B.E ministry and has assisted with the Back-to-School Supply Drive at CenterPointe.

Fleming’s future plans include continuing her education studying economics with the overall goal of attending law school to become a corporate lawyer.

She has received numerous offers from outstanding universities including the University of Miami, Georgetown University, University of Notre Dame, Louisiana State University, Miami University (Oxford), University of South Florida, Eckerd College, University of North Florida and Florida Atlantic University.

She is anticipating acceptance letters from several other universities this month.

Odyssey Charter School is fully accredited by COGNIA and is an A-rated public charter school. Founded in 1999, Odyssey is one of the most prestigious and established charter schools in the district and state.

Odyssey students have been awarded numerous scholarships to universities including Ivy League institutions, and the school has been recognized nationally and by the state of Florida as a high-performing public charter school earning many academic, health/wellness and green school awards.

The tuition-free school serves more than 2,000 students throughout Brevard and Indian River Counties on two campuses in Palm Bay.
