BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A fire on Friday at the Florida Recyclers mulching facility has prompted temporary closure of Brevard County’s Sarno Road Landfill and Transfer Station and will lead to delays for Waste Management garbage and recycling collections.
Florida Recyclers’ mulching facility is located adjacent to the County’s landfill and transfer station. The mulch fire was reported early this morning.
The cause is unknown at this time.
Waste Management reported Friday afternoon that due to the fire its trucks will need to haul to the Brevard County Central Disposal Facility in Cocoa to empty loads.
“We anticipate that all routes in all areas will run late today,” said the company in an email. “Our drivers will be coming in tomorrow (Saturday) to complete any routes not completed today.”
The County is taking precautionary actions in the hopes of preventing the fire from spreading to the Sarno Road Landfill.
