BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s soccer team lost a tight match 1-0 with Salt Lake Community College in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament semifinals early Tuesday morning in Evans, Georgia.
After a three and a half hour delay that saw the teams hit the field at 11 p.m. and finish at close to 1 a.m., the Titans and Bruins played a scoreless first half as both teams had looks but the defenses held strong.
Salt Lake Community College, the No. 2 seed and making their first appearance in the semifinals, scored five minutes into the second half as Hannah Lee found the back of the net.
Eastern Florida State College, the No. 3 seed at 10-1-1 now, had a couple of good chances late in the game including a rocket off the foot of Julieta Limardo that Salt Lake goalkeeper Carli Jager tipped over the top of the net.
The Titans defense held off a strong Salt Lake front the rest of the way as Marthe Taugbol, Sofie Soerum, Jess DiBiasse and Brazil Clark played well against the quick front line.
In the final couple of minutes, the Titans continued to test Salt Lake but could not find the equalizer.
It is the fourth straight season that the Titans have advanced to the national tournament semifinals.
