BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s soccer team battled No. 2 Salt Lake City Community College for 110 minutes, ending in a 0-0 double-overtime draw Saturday at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah.
The game lived up to the billing as two of the top three teams in the country as both defenses held the offenses at bay throughout the matchup.
It looked like Salt Lake City CC may take an early lead on an Anna Pinegar shot, but goalkeeper Marcelle Thedinga made a great save just two minutes and 28 seconds into the contest to keep the game scoreless.
It would be the first of a couple of great saves by the sophomore goalkeeper who finished with five saves and the first clean sheet of the season.
The Titans would have a couple of good looks in the first half but Bruins goalkeeper Taegan Frandsen made the save on both shots.
The Titan’s defense had an outstanding day as Jessica DeBiasse, Marthe Taugbol, Sofie Sorum, and Kirsty Woodacre all made big plays to end runs throughout the matchup of top teams in the country.
The second half seemed to play out like the first half as both teams had the same number of shots. Down the stretch, the Titans seemed like they were getting better opportunities, but the Bruins defense was up to the task.
The Titans finish the weekend in Utah 0-1-1 and head back home to play in a couple of scrimmages before the home opener on Sept. 3 against Southwestern Illinois College at 6 p.m. at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus.
