WATCH: Annual Military Order of the Purple Heart Ceremony Held at Brevard Veterans Memorial Center

WATCH: The Annual Military Order of the Purple Heart Ceremony at the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center and Memorial Plaza was held Sunday and Steve Wilson was on hand to cover the event in the latest episode of “Stories of Service.” This ceremony recognized and honored 12 recipients of the Purple Heart during combat operations.
BREVARD COUNTY • MERRIT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Purple Heart Day recognizes and honors recipients, and in Brevard County, Chapter 453 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, paid tribute to members of the Armed Forces wounded or killed in action.
The 2021 ceremony was held at the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center on Sunday and Steve Wilson was on hand to cover the event in the latest episode of “Stories of Service.”
During the ceremony, each hero’s stories was recounted by a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and as special monument at the Veterans Center is surrounded by pavers honoring Space Coast recipients of the Purple Heart.
Those honored this year include Capt. Charles Donovan, Sgt. John Erskine, Lance Cpl. Joshua Frey, Sgt. First Class Jonathan Langford, First Sgt. Mike Lomax, Sgt. Ray Lynch, Master Sgt. Adrian Marquez, Col. Danny McKnight, Sgt. Brian McGinnis, Lance Cpl. Carl Miller, Sgt. First Class Juan Santiago and Staff Sgt. Thomas Trotter.
The Veterans Memorial Center Museum collects, preserves and displays artifacts of the military history of the United States, with special emphasis on Brevard County veterans. The goal is to educate the community and inspire present and future generations with the military’s service and sacrifice.
The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. It is always free of charge.
