Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Conducts Death Investigation After Tree Service Employee Electrocuted to Death, One Injured

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into an electrocution that occurred in the 500 block of Harland Avenue in the city of Melbourne Beach.
Officers responded to the area at approximately 11:40 a.m. after an employee for a tree service accidentally made contact with an electric line while trimming trees behind a residence.
The adult male worker was electrocuted and pronounced dead on the scene.
The worker’s teenage son was also injured while attempting to provide aid to his father, who was in the bucket of a lift when the accident occurred. The teen was transported to a local hospital from the scene in stable condition.
Due to the incident, Florida Power and Light has interrupted service to the area in order to avert any further injury to citizens or personnel involved in the investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Melbourne Beach Police Department with the investigation and Agents from the Homicide and Crime Scene Units are currently in the process of conducting interviews and collecting evidence to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
The male will be taken to the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be conducted. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
