Sheriff Ivey: If you are going to drink, then drink responsibly and don’t drink and drive
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – In some of our previous D.U.I. Arrest posts, a couple of people have commented that we shouldn’t “public shame” people by posting their arrest pictures as it’s embarrassing and could keep them from getting a job and so forth.
In response to that I say “what a bunch of hogwash,” as if you are foolish and reckless enough to drink and drive then you are foolish and reckless enough to have your arrest picture plastered all over social media for putting others lives at risk.
Last year there were over 10,000 fatalities nationwide as the result of drunk driving, so that’s 10,000 people who will also never again get a job offer or get to experience anything else in their lives for that matter.
Think about that for a minute, 10,000 people who are no longer on this earth because someone chose to put others lives at risk because of their own irresponsibility.
So to be clear, I couldn’t care less about a drunk driver’s feelings or them being embarrassed about their arrest picture being on social media, what I care about is that not one more life is lost because of a drunk driver.
Now if you still don’t like the fact that we do this, ask yourself this right before you type a comment about public shaming, “how would you feel if one of those 10,000 was your mom or dad, husband or wife, or son or daughter?”
If you don’t want to see your face on this poster then don’t drink and drive in Brevard County.
