BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County hotel owner and veteran tourism council expert Bob Baugher speaks with Space Coast Daily’s Giles Malone on his concerns regarding a proposal that has come before the county commission but is not available for the public.
The proposal last seen by the tourism council involves the dedication of local option tourism tax to the new proposed Westin hotel in Cocoa Beach to help fund the project.
The proposal is being supported by numerous local lobbyists who are advocating to the county commissioners for upwards of $75 million to be used from future tourism tax generated at the proposed hotel to pay the debt and construction on the upscale hotel property, which currently has the International Palms resort on it.
In this exclusive interview with Space Coast Daily, Bob Baugher explains what the pitfalls are with this proposed project financing and his concerns for setting a dangerous precedent that could lead to big problems for Cocoa Beach and County in the future.
