Eastern Florida State Professor Joanna White Presents Solo Exhibit at Goggleworks Center for the Arts

Eastern Florida State Artist and Professor Joanna White teaches Drawing, Painting and Design
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida State College Artist and Professor Joanna White from Melbourne will present a solo exhibit at the Goggleworks Center for the Arts in Reading, Pennsylvania from June 27-July 25.
White grew up in central Florida, and currently serves as a Professor of Art at Eastern Florida State College where she teaches Drawing, Painting, and Design.
Her art has been displayed in art galleries across the country, as well as museum exhibits at the Tampa Museum of Art, Boca Raton Museum of Art, Museum of Florida Art, Florida State University Museum of Fine Art, Albin Polasek Museum and Sculpture Gardens, and the Brevard Art Museum.

Goggleworks is the largest interactive visual arts center in the United States, with a campus size of 145,000 square feet.
The exhibit is titled A Thimble for My Soul and features six large-scale sculptural pieces and eight smaller three-dimensional works.
White’s work involves recycled materials, including used post-it notes, plastic grocery bags, sandwich bags, and her students’ abandoned drawings. She juxtaposes these discarded trash materials with more traditional art media, such as oil paint.
Using ephemeral items such as onion skins, tracing paper, and thread, she creates a visual paradox by constructing solid-looking geometric forms from saggy, fragile materials.
Her three-dimensional sculptures involve many small, folded paper box components that are connected into a bigger organic shape. For this exhibit, several large artworks hang from the ceiling, using gravity to influence the form of the work.
Goggleworks Center for the Arts includes 5 exhibition galleries, 8 teaching studios, 35 artist studios, a 131-seat theater, a café, and a store featuring the work of 200 artists.
The center offers rotating exhibits, workshops, artists in residencies, and daily art house films in the theater.
The facility is housed in a historic factory building that was converted into a cultural arts center in 2005, with a mission “to transform lives through unique interactions with art.”
Goggleworks is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and offers free admission and free parking.
