A Guide to Booking the Perfect Trip to Zambia

If you’re planning a holiday, then there is already a lot to look forward to. However, if you’re planning an out-of-the-ordinary, luxury trip, then there is even more excitement in the air.

Visiting a bucket-list location such as Zambia is an incredible experience – you get to experience a way of life unlike your own alongside amazing scenery and some of the world’s most incredible creatures. However, a trip like this doesn’t just happen on its own, you need to book into the right places and organize what you want to happen while you are there – here’s a guide to booking the perfect trip to Zambia that might help.  

Where Do You Want to Visit? 

Africa is a big place which means that planning exactly where you want to go while you are there is a must. Some destinations might be hours apart so visiting them both might not be practical – or if you are going to do both you need to factor in the time needed to make that happen. 

However, the fact that it is so vast in size means that whatever type of experience you’re looking for you can be sure there will be something to suit – you just need to research what is available and match this up with what you want to see and do while you are there to create the perfect trip.  

One thing to give massive consideration to is the accommodation you book and where you want this to be. As you might imagine this part of the world has plenty of different accommodation choices which means there is something for everyone. If you’re interested in a safari then booking onto one of the national parts is a must, the scenery alone makes this work.

One part that is simply breath-taking is the Lower Zambezi National Park located in Zambia. You’ll have accommodation choices such as the Lolebezi which is an absolute treat to stay in. The park itself is set on five hectares of protected wilderness with the Zambezi River flowing right through it – absolutely stunning and something that has to be seen to be believed.  

Working out When to Visit 

Like most parts of the world, different seasons have different weather conditions and therefore give you a different experience when you visit. Africa has both very wet and very dry seasons, which means that depending on when you visit you’ll get to experience some extremes of weather.  

■ January to April – Although February and March are the highest rainfall months, the first 4 months of the year are all very wet. You’ll see some great sights at this time of year but you do need to be prepared to get very wet. 

■ May to July – May starts the dry season off throughout Africa, so you’ll get to experience both dry and very warm weather. July starts to be very warm, so if you’re sensitive to hot weather than you may which to visit in May and June 

■ August to October – This time of year is mostly dry and hot, so can be one of the nicest times to visit. October reaches the peak of the hot season. 

■ November and December – Although the hot weather is still around at this time of year, this is when we start to see some rain.  

Making Your Plans in Advance 

Once you have decided when and where you want to visit when visiting Zambia, it is time to start thinking about how you can make the trip happen and what you need to do in advance to ensure that the trip of a lifetime is able to be arranged.  

It is a good idea to look at what you want to do while you are there so that you can work out a budget & start to save up in advance. For example, do you need to budget for extra meals or will you be booking extra trips while you are there that need to be paid for?

If your hotel accommodation is all-inclusive then you might need less money on you while you are there. However, it is worth considering that the staff that assists you on various trips and safaris should be tipped, so you might want to make sure that you have plenty of cash on your person to do this. 

Getting organised in advance with what you need to pack and what you want to take while you are there is a good idea too. Have a look at what the weather is likely to be like while you are there and then you can work out what you need pack with you – then you can start to shop for what you need in advance and get everything packed, giving you one less thing to worry about in advance of your trip.
