Florida Tech Pitcher Danny Vassallo Named Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Danny Vassallo of the Florida Tech baseball team has been named the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday.

This is the first time Vassallo has received this award in his career. He is the first Florida Tech pitcher to receive this award since March 21, 2022, when Joey Hecht was awarded the honor.

Florida Tech went 3-2 this week, and the right-handed pitcher had two strong performances on the bump, in two different roles.

He started in a midweek contest with D’Youville then came out of the bullpen on Sunday in a conference matchup with (RV) Rollins.

In his first start of the season against D’Youville, Vassallo threw five scoreless innings with a season-high six strikeouts.

He gave up just three hits and picked up his second win of the season. The junior worked efficiently, needing just 62 pitches to get through five innings.

After having four days off to rest his arm, Vassallo was called upon again in the eighth inning of the series finale against Rollins. He worked another five innings, giving up one earned run on two hits. Vassallo didn’t allow a base runner in his first four innings of work and finished with five strikeouts.
For the week, Vassallo allowed one earned run on five hits in 10 innings pitched. He struck out 11 batters and walked none.

As SSC Pitcher of the Week, Vassallo will be nominated for the NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week. Weekly regional awards are announced on Wednesday nights.

The Panthers who currently sit at 16-10 and 5-4 in the SSC return to Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field on Friday, March 24th to begin an SSC series with Embry-Riddle. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
