'Team Brevard' competed against 10 other Division I teams

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The 2023 Brevard Academic All-Star team earned a second-place finish at the Commissioner’s Academic Challenge – also known as the Florida High School Academic Championship.
“Team Brevard” competed against ten other Division I teams over a three-day period, April 21-23, at the Omni Orlando Resort.
This is Brevard’s second Top Three finish in the last two years, having won the 2022 State Championship last year at Walt Disney World.
These high-achieving students were selected last fall during seven academic competitions, known as the BCAC, in which 15 high schools participated.
The top seven players from these competitions were selected for their strengths in the following areas: art, English, foreign language, history, math, music, and science.
Since January 9, coaches Mike Prince of Cocoa Beach High and Aaron LeBlanc of Rockledge High have practiced with the team every other Monday night at the BPS District Office in preparation for this State Tournament.
“Congratulations to everyone on Team Brevard for their hard work, grit, and determination in capably representing BPS at this year’s State Championship event,” said a BPS official.
Brevard Academy for Individual Excellence has served students with diverse backgrounds and talents in Melbourne and surrounding areas for over ten years. To facilitate placement, children are given reading and math assessments.
This allows students to be grouped based on skill level. Students with exceptional talents will be placed into skill levels corresponding to assessment scores, regardless of age or grade.
Students are grouped by grade level for history and science. These subjects are used to promote character development, leadership skills, and teamwork.
