COLLEGE SPORTS: Florida Tech Hires Brian Darden as Associate Director of Athletic Compliance

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech Associate Athletic Director for Scholar-Athlete Services/SWA Jen Mercurio announces the hiring of Brian Darden as the Associate Director of Athletic Compliance.

“I am very excited to have Brian as our Assistant Director of Athletic Compliance,” said Mercurio.

“He will bring a new set of eyes and ideas to our Department to help simplify many of our processes. Brian’s experience at Florida State and working with Teamworks will allow him to get the ball rolling right away. He has a great personality for working in Compliance, and I look forward to working with him.”

In his role, Darden will assist coaches with interpretations, monitor eligibility, advise and counsel scholar-athletes on eligibility, and assist with the overall monitoring of compliance rules. He will also monitor and maintain Teamworks and Frontrush accounts.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the compliance staff and athletics family here at Florida Tech,” said Darden.

“I’m excited to be a part of the future of what Florida Tech athletics has in store. I want to thank Jen Mercurio and Jamie Joss for allowing me to be a part of this excellent staff. I can’t wait to get started!”

Darden comes to Florida Tech after serving as a Compliance Graduate Assistant at Florida State University. While at FSU, he assisted with all unofficial and official visit policies and procedures, monitoring scholar-athlete participation, reviewing potential scholar-athlete transcripts, and all legislative questions.

Before FSU, Darden worked as an Athletics Event Management Intern for the University of South Florida, where he managed game day operations and aided in facility projects and maintenance. Darden also served as the Communications Assistant for the University of Tampa from June 2020 to May 2022.

Darden was a member of the United States Air Force from October 2011 to September 2014 before graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management from the University of Tampa in May 2022. He is currently working towards his Master of Education from Florida State University.
