BREVARD COUNTY, TITUSVILLE • FLORIDA – Introducing the LUCAS Device: This device is utilized on patients who require CPR.
The LUCAS device delivers Guidelines-consistent, high-quality chest compressions at recommended rate and depth while allowing for chest recoil, and fewer interruptions, compared to manual CPR, leading to higher compression ratios and increased blood flow to the brain. This provides great CPR and frees up personnel on the scene to perform additional tasks.
This is especially helpful during transport to the hospital. This is important as good CPR is the foundation of resuscitation.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure taught in first aid training, consisting of chest compressions, often combined with artificial ventilation in an effort to manually preserve intact brain function until further measures are taken to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person who is in cardiac arrest.
It is recommended for those who are unresponsive with no breathing or abnormal breathing.

CPR is used on people in cardiac arrest to oxygenate the blood and maintain a cardiac output to keep vital organs alive.
Blood circulation and oxygenation are required to transport oxygen to the tissues. The physiology of CPR involves generating a pressure gradient between the arterial and venous vascular beds; CPR achieves this via multiple mechanisms. The brain may sustain damage after blood flow has been stopped for about four minutes and irreversible damage after about seven minutes.
