5 Ways to Prepare to Propose to Your Girlfriend

There’s no time in your life like knowing you found the one you want to spend the rest of your life with and asking her if she wants the same. Excitement and stress are battling for control. 1.   Buy The Ring

This is arguably the most important step. The ring asks the question louder than even your words will.

The right one is different depending on who it is for. Does your special lady prefer a traditional style or something with a more modern flair? Remember that it is her you are buying the ring for, not an ideal.

2. Choose the Location

This is going to be the layout for both of your memories of this moment, so you need to have it right. There are a couple of options for this, each with its own advantages.

You can whisk your loved one away on a vacation, but you’ll need to be careful with your money, as you’re already buying an engagement ring and likely planning a wedding. Some people compromise and plan a road trip. You can also choose a location of significance to you as a couple, such as where you first met.  

3.   Give Her an Idea Beforehand

If the question comes out of nowhere, you’ll be less likely to get your desired reaction. You want it to be a surprise, not a shock.

In the weeks before you actually do it, provide a hint. It doesn’t even have to be incredibly subtle. You could even say you have a special occasion planned with something important to discuss. Even if that gives it away to a certain extent, there will still be some element of surprise because she won’t be entirely sure until you actually say the words.

4.   Rehearse

A proposal that is rehearsed can be heartfelt because the words you say will still come from the heart so long as you are the one who came up with them.

Go through the motions of getting her there; at what point you are going to direct the conversation to the big question? But most of all, practice what you are going to say during the proposal speech. This way, you’ll know exactly what to say, and you won’t fumble over your words, which will create a much better experience for her.

5.   Make Any Necessary Arrangements Ahead of Time

Are there any events that need to be perfectly synchronized? For example, you need a group to come out and sing a certain song at a certain time, or the ring needs to be brought out with a certain presentation. None of these things will go well if they are not arranged beforehand.

It will also make you feel more at ease, which will help you deliver this moment the way you want to when the time comes.
