COLLEGE SPORTS NEWS: Florida Tech Hires Guarn Sims II as New Athletic Operations Coordinator

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech Director of Game Operations Tom Richard announces the hiring of Guarn Sims II as the new Athletic Operations Coordinator.

“Guarn is a tremendous addition to Florida Tech Athletics,” said Richard. “The applicant pool was deep in quantity and quality. Guarn rose to the top with his credentials and team-first personality. We are excited to bring Guarn on board.”

Sims comes to Florida Tech after serving as the Sports Coordinator at the UMCA of SPBC since March 2022.

“I’m very excited to take this next step in my career at Florida Tech,” said Sims. “I’m looking to bring my experiences from FGCU and the YMCA to this position and help enhance our operations to continue providing a top-notch experience for our scholar-athletes. I look forward to learning as much as I can from everyone here.”

During his time at YMCA of SPBC, Sims coordinated the youth and adult leagues and managed the sports staff, the budget, marketing and sales, event planning, and operations.

Prior to YMCA of SPBC, Sims was an event supervisor at Perfect Game USA, where he spent some time coaching baseball and assisting in coordinating events. He also served as a Public Relations and Marketing Intern for the Florida Everblades Hockey Club from April 2020-April 2021.

Additionally, Sims was a Sports Event/Lead Student Worker in the Athletic Department at Florida Gulf Coast University.

Sims earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications, Public Relations with a minor in Marketing from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2021 and is currently working towards his Master’s in Sports Administration from the University of Cincinnati.
