Florida Republican Rep. Bill Posey announced his 2024 campaign leadership team ahead of his reelection bid for Florida’s 8th Congressional District.
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Republican Rep. Bill Posey announced his 2024 campaign leadership team ahead of his reelection bid for Florida’s 8th Congressional District.
Posey’s team is as follows:
■ State Sens. Erin Grall, Tom Wright
■ State Reps. Thad Altman, Robbie Brackett, Randy Fine, Tyler Sirois
■ Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey
■ Former Congressman Dave Weldon
■ Former Speaker of the House Steve Crisafulli
■ Former Senate President Mike Haridopolos
■ Brevard County Commissioners Rob Feltner, Rita Pritchett, Jason Steele, John Tobia
■ Indian River County Commissioners Susan Adams, Joe Earman, Deryl Loar
■ Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers
Represented by Posey, the 8th district covers Brevard County, Indian River County and eastern Orange County. The area includes Cape Canaveral, Melbourne, Palm Bay, and Titusville.
In his seventh term overall, Posey was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2008, serving Florida’s 15th Congressional District. He has presided over Florida’s 8th Congressional District since 2013.
Posey also served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1992 to 2000 and the Florida Senate from 2000 to 2008.
Seeking his eighth term, Posey specified jobs and the economy, securing America’s border, health care reform, veterans and national security, and achieving energy independence as some of his top issues.
On jobs and the economy, Posey said reforming and simplifying the tax code, eliminating regulatory barriers, and balancing the budget were other issues.
He declared securing U.S. borders as “critical to our national security, preventing crime, and for public safety.”
Posey also described an “all of the above” approach to energy. His priorities include developing the United States’ oil and natural gas resources, as well as renewable clean energy, nuclear power and conservation initiatives.
In the House, Posey serves on the Finance Services Committee and Committee on Science, Space and Technology. He also is a member of the House Republican Study Committee.
A longtime area resident, Posey graduated from Cocoa High School and Brevard Community College in 1969.
In 2022, Posey defeated Democratic candidate Joanne Terry in Florida’s 8th Congressional District by 30 points. He collected more than 100,000 votes in his victory.
Florida’s 8th Congressional District primary election is scheduled for Aug. 20, 2024. Posey, Joseph Babits, John Hearton and Brian Jones have all declared for the Republican seat.
The general election is scheduled for Nov. 5, 2024.
