Hit-and-Run Crash Kills One Person on South Harbor City Blvd. in Melbourne, Victim Identified

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police responded to the scene of a vehicle vs pedestrian crash on Christmas Day that claimed the life of a 23-year-old man from Pennsylvania.
Authorities say the crash happened Monday around 12:18 a.m. near South Harbor City Blvd. and Strawbridge Ave.
When police arrived on scene they discovered the pedestrian had suffered life-sustaining injuries from the crash.
Authorities identified the man as Andrew Ryan Sofranko from Handover TWP, Pennsylvania.
Sofranko was taken to the Holmes Regional Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
Initial investigation reveals the pedestrian attempted to cross over S Harbor City Blvd near the intersection of Strawbridge Ave when he was struck by an unknown driver of an unknown vehicle who traveling north on South Harbor City Blvd., according to Cmdr. Mark Renkens of the Melbourne Police Department.
The driver and vehicle failed to stay on scene and fled north bound on S Harbor City Blvd.
Police it is unknown if alcohol/drugs were a factor in this crash at this time.
The crash is still under investigation.
