Melbourne Police Chief Pleas For Community to Help Assist in Homicide Investigation That Claimed 16-Year-Old’s Life, Suspect Wanted

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police Chief David Gillespie is asking for the community’s help to help solve a homicide investigation that claimed the life of 16-year-old’s life Wednesday night.
“This is a senseless incident that resulted in the tragic loss of a youth in our community. While the investigation is ongoing, I am able to say that this was not a random incident. However, we need the community’s help. I urge anyone with information to contact the Melbourne Police Department at 321-608-3751,” said Chief Gillespie.
“The Melbourne Police Department will continue to aggressively patrol the area and vigorously investigate this incident until we are able to bring the perpetrator to justice.”
Police are conducting a homicide investigation after a fatal shooting killed a 16-year-old Wednesday night on Xavier Dr. and Marshall Ave.
Police say at approximately 6:52 pm, officers responded to a call of shots fired at Xavier Dr/Marshall Ave. Officers arrived at the scene and did not find a victim but did find multiple spent casings and other items of evidence.
At 7:00 pm, a 16-year-old arrived at Holmes Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds. He was rushed inside the emergency department; however, he succumbed to his injuries.
The victim’s identification is being withheld awaiting the notification to his parent who is currently out of the county.
Detectives have not found any additional victims at this time.
Detectives are currently investigating this incident along with other recent shootings to determine if they are connected.
The identity of the 16-year-old has not been released by police.
