Palm Bay Man Arrested for Trafficking Heroin, Ilegal Drugs

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police recently arrested a man for trafficking heroin and other illegal drugs.
Officer Smith performed a traffic stop on a pickup truck traveling along Edgewood Drive.
The driver, later identified as Jonathan Byrd, quickly pulled into a yard only and attempted an evasive U-turn.
The maneuver failed when the truck struck a large oak tree in the middle of the yard.
The suspect bailed out of the truck, fleeing on foot. He was quickly apprehended by Officer Smith. A variety of drugs including a trafficking amount of brown heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, oxycodone, and marijuana were located inside the truck.
Byrd was charged with possession of the above drugs, leaving the scene of a crash, and resisting an officer without violence.
