BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department will host its 4th Annual Kids Fishing Clinic on Saturday, March 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This event is free of charge. Children ages five to 15 are encouraged to participate but must register in advance, as this event fills up quickly.
The Kids Fishing Clinic is an awesome fun-filled community event aimed at teaching youth about the Indian River Lagoon, waterway ecosystems, and basic fishing skills.
This is a fantastic event that allows police officers to forge positive relationships with our youth while having a fun day of activities.
Participants will have an opportunity to learn about wildlife conservation, habitat preservation and regulations, knot tying, and casting a fishing pole, while gaining a better understanding of marine life and preserving the quality of our waterways.
After visiting a series of educational stations, all registered participants will receive a free fishing pole and be able to enjoy a day of fishing with Melbourne Police officers and civilian staff members. While the event is for children ages 5-15, all are invited to attend and enjoy beautiful Ballard Park and the Indian River Lagoon.
The Melbourne Police Department Melbourne Parks and Recreation Department, and Melbourne Fire Department are proud to partner with many local agencies and nonprofits to make this event possible, including the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute, Keep Brevard Beautiful, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and U.S. Coast Guard.
Special recognition is given to the Eau Galle Rotary Club for donating all of the fishing poles for the past four years, and Rigg’s Outpost for donating the bait every year.
These two organizations have been sponsors from the beginning of the Fishing Clinic, and this event would not be what it is today without their support.
“We are excited to host this event as part of our ongoing effort to foster positive relationships with our youth,” said Chief David Gillespie.
“Community engagement is essential to our mission, and events like this provide an excellent opportunity for meaningful interaction and a lot of fun.”
