BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Central Catholic High School’s newly named head football coach Willie Tillman stopped by the Space Coast Daily TV studios in Cocoa to talk about his new job with Space Coast Daily Sports Editor Juan Rodriguez.

Tillman graduated from Satellite High School and then attended Purdue University where he was a four-year letter winner and two-year starter for the Boilermakers. He earned his BA from Purdue and his MA in Education and Teaching from Bethel College.

“It is a great honor for me to have accepted the position of Head Football Coach at Melbourne Central Catholic,” Tillman said.

“I want to thank MCC for this opportunity and responsibility. I am excited to bring my wealth of experience, passion, and proven track record of success to MCC. I’m blessed to come home to foster an environment that emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and faith for student-athletes.”

The Brevard County native brings 25 years of coaching experience to the Hustlers, most recently serving as Director of Football Operations/Linebacker Coach at Ave Maria University.

Tillman’s stops before Ave Maria included Lakewood High School where he was associate head coach, Next College Student Athlete where he was a National Recruiting Specialist, Valdosta State University where he served as Defensive Line Coach, Westminster Academy where he was head coach, Florida Tech where he was defensive coordinator, and Merritt Island High School where he was defensive coordinator.

MCC Athletic Director John Michael Thistle expressed gratitude that some of the top coaches in the county approached MCC with interest in the position.

“We appreciate the passion for student-athletes and high school football and the unique experience and skill set each candidate contributed to the interview process,” Thistle noted.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Tillman, and look forward to partnering with him to lead our football program with an emphasis on MCC’s values, mission, vision, and history of excellence.”
