BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department is currently on the scene at Melbourne High School where the school was placed on lockdown on Monday.

Authorities say the lockdown went into effect at 12:03 p.m.

Police sent in bomb sniffing dogs to clear the building

No injuries have been reported and police say the lockdown ended at 2 p.m., according to Melbourne Police.

Preliminary investigation suggests the call made about Melbourne High School is a swatting call.

Swatting is a term used to describe the action of making hoax phone calls to report serious crimes to emergency services. People who carry out a swatting prank call aim to fool emergency services into sending a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team to respond to the supposed emergency.
