Wisconsin Woman Dead, Man Seriously Injured After Single Vehicle Crash in Merritt Island

Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single vehicle fatal crash in Merritt Island on Monday that killed a 60-year-old woman from Portage, Wisconsin, and seriously injured a 55-year-old man from Portage, Wisconsin.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol responded to a single vehicle fatal crash in Merritt Island on Monday that killed a 60-year-old woman from Portage, Wisconsin, and seriously injured a 55-year-old man from Portage, Wisconsin.

State troopers say the woman was the passenger inside the vehicle, while the man was the driver of the vehicle.

According to the investigation, authorities say the man was traveling northbound Courtenay Parkway near Pine Island Road in 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander when the vehicle ran off the roadway for an unknown reason and traveled into the oncoming southbound lanes and ran into a fire hydrant.

The result of the crash made the vehicle crash into a ditch and striking a concrete power pole.

Both people inside the vehicle were taken to the hospital in a helicopter. However, the woman later pronounced dead at Cape Canaveral Hospital.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
