Five Florida Tech Panthers Baseball Players Earn CSC Academic All-District Teams

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Five Panthers on the Florida Tech baseball team earned Academic All-District honors from College Sports Communicators.

Carlos Guzman, Ridge Skarbek, Trenten Anderson, Jason Blackstone, and Brett Kelly were the five who earned the award.

The 2023 Academic All-District Baseball Teams, a prestigious selection by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top scholar-athletes for their exceptional performances on the field and in the classroom.

Guzman, a senior, earned his undergraduate degree in Finance and held a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA. On the field, Guzman appeared in 40 games with 37 starts behind the dish and as the designated hitter.

The Orlando, Fla. native slashed .284/.388/.454 in his first season with the Panthers while leading the team in RBI (32) and home runs (6).

Skarbek, a graduate student in the MBA program, holds a 4.0 cumulative GPA in his studies. On the field, Skarbek was a staple out of Tech’s bullpen, with 18 appearances, a 4.85 ERA, and 29 strikeouts over 29.2 innings pitched.

Anderson, a graduate student majoring in environmental resource management, holds a 3.83 cumulative GPA. On the mound, the Orange City, Fla. native appeared in 17 games with 10 starts.

In 47 innings pitched, he finished the season second on the team in strikeouts with 40.

Blackstone, a junior majoring in civil engineering, holds a 3.54 cumulative GPA. An All-SSC Defensive team honoree for his play at shortstop, the Indialantic, Fla. native appeared and started in 48 games for the Panthers. At the plate, he slashed .285/.377/.352 and finished second on the team in total bases (68), total hits (55), doubles (8), and stolen bases (11).

Kelly, a senior majoring in aeronautical science, holds a 3.58 cumulative GPA. On the field, the centerfielder appeared and started in 35 games for Tech. Kelly slashed .311/.422/.409 and totaled 54 bases with 41 hits, eight doubles, and one home run.
