Florida Tech Men’s Cross Country, Track Team Place Four on the CSC All-District Teams

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Four Florida Tech men’s cross country and track team members earned a spot on the College Sports Communications Academic All-District team when the organization announced its selections on Tuesday afternoon.
Luke Aagaard, Chinedum Ajabor, Brycen Haner, and Brennan Lackey represent the Panthers on the CSC Academic All-District Team.
The 2023 Academic All-District Men’s Cross Country and Track Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, commend the nation’s top scholar-athletes for their exceptional performances on the field and in the classroom, showcasing their remarkable ability to balance academics and athletics.
Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
Aagaard, a junior, is pursuing his degree in aerospace engineering, maintaining a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average. His commitment is evident in his performance during the cross country season, where he competed in four of the five meets, running a personal best 8K at the UAH Chargers XC Invitational with a 29:41.4.
The Tallahassee native’s determination shone during the indoor season, recording three times in three different events. He sported a top-25 time in the region in the Distance Medley Relay of 11:35.68 at the Celebration Pointe Classic with three of his teammates.
Ajabor, a graduate student, is earning his degree in Computer Science and holds a 3.71 cumulative grade point average. Ajabor topped three personal records during the indoor and outdoor track seasons. At the Bob Hayes Spring Break Invitational, he ran a 12.40 in the 100-meter and took 26th place.
Ajabor and three other teammates recorded a top-30 time in the region in the 4×100 relay with a time of 45.76.
One of Aagaard’s teammates in the DMR was Haner. The sophomore is working on a degree in mechanical engineering and has a 3.69 cumulative grade point average. He ran a career time of 28:06.3 in the 8K at the UAH Chargers XC Invitational. Haner competed at the 2023 SSC and NCAA Cross Country Championships.
He broke four personal records during the indoor and outdoor seasons. Haner ended his sophomore campaign on a high note with a career-high time of 16:39.17 in the 5000-meter at the Embry Riddle Running Elements Classic.
Lackey is a sophomore civil engineering major and holds a 3.58 cumulative grade point average. Lackey also ran a personal record at the UAH Chargers XC Invitational of 29:26.6.
He bested career times in seven events during the indoor and outdoor track seasons, each in a different event. The Wasilla, Alaska native broke two of them at the UCF Knights invite in the 800-meter and 3000-meter Steeplechase with times of 2:06. 56 and 10:36.24 respectively. His steeplechase time was good for the 46th, which was the best in the region.
