BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – For the first time in program history, men’s rowing’s Varsity 4+ stood on the podium at the IRA National Championships, taking home the bronze medal.
The Panthers went up against tough crews in Saturday’s grand finals, facing Washington, Dartmouth, Colgate, California and Brown.
Off the line, the crews were even up until the 500-meter mark when Washington pulled a seat ahead of the rest of the crews and continued to build their lead.
Tech and Dartmouth were bow ball to bow ball for the next 500 meters. At the 1,000-meter mark, Dartmouth pushed ahead as Tech’s bow ball was sitting on Dartmouth’s three seats.
The positions remained the same through the remainder of the race, with Washington claiming first (6.15.019), Dartmouth finishing second (6.17.432), and Tech crossing the line third (6.19.146) to earn a spot on the podium.
The Panthers held off the crews of Colgate (6:22.286), California (6:22.356), and Brown (6:25.976).
