OBITUARY: Vietnam Veteran Gary Lynn Hinkle, 83, of Palm Bay, Passes Away Aug. 19

Gary Lynn Hinkle, 83, of Palm Bay, Florida, died on August 19, 2024 at Health First’s Holmes Regional Hospital in Melbourne, Florida. Gary was a member of the Air Force for 20 years, 3 months, and 24 days. He was a Vietnam Veteran, having served in country for 13 months at DaNang Air Force Base, Vietnam. Gary worked security for a Harris Corporation contractor in Melbourne, then retired for good in 2010.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Gary Lynn Hinkle, 83, of Palm Bay, Florida, died on August 19, 2024 at Health First’s Holmes Regional Hospital in Melbourne, Florida. He was the husband of Kathleen (Katy) Hinkle. They shared 53 years, 1 month, and 9 days together.

Gary was born in Weston, West Virginia, the son of Shurld John Hinkle and Anna Louise Butcher Hinkle. Gary attended Weston High School and graduated in 1958. October, 1958, Gary enlisted in the Air Force along with his two best friends, John Kyer and Ralph Allen.

Gary was a member of the Air Force for 20 years, 3 months, and 24 days. He was a Vietnam Veteran, having served in country for 13 months at DaNang Air Force Base, Vietnam.

After the Air Force, Gary worked in upper management in the trucking industry for 22 years, first as a Safety Director, then as Vice President of Fleet Management. After he retired from his second job, he worked security for a Harris Corporation contractor in Melbourne, Florida, then retired for good in 2010.

Gary was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the Vietnam Veterans of America. His hobbies were gardening and reading. He will be remembered as a kind, loving, generous husband, father, and boss. All of his employees loved him.

He is survived by his wife Katy of Palm Bay, his children Loarn O. Hinkle and daughter-in-law Annalie of Tullahoma, TN, Gregory L. Hinkle of Caldwell, OH, his grandchildren Loarn P. Hinkle, Thomas E. Hinkle and wife Samantha, Nicole C. McCurdy and husband William O’ffill, Emilee L. Hinkle, and Mollie J. Rossing, six brothers and one sister. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother.

The memorial service will be held on September 15, 2024, at Davis Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory, 560 Montreal Avenue, Melbourne, Florida. Visitation is from 2 p.m. to the time of the service.
