ABOVE VIDEO: Brevard County Deputy Sheriff Laboy Shows Patriotic Gesture While On Duty

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – It is often said that the definition of integrity is…doing the right thing when no one is looking and no one will ever know.

Well that’s exactly what happened yesterday as Deputy Lonita Laboy was working her shift as a Deputy Sheriff in our South Precinct and observed that the United States Flag attached to the mailbox of one of our citizens had came loose and was touching the ground.

In an effort to keep the flag from touching the ground, Deputy Laboy took it off the mailbox and attempted to make contact with the home owner.

Unable to get anyone to the door, Deputy Laboy gently folded the flag and placed it in their mailbox to keep it from touching the ground.

As if that patriotic gesture was not enough, Deputy Laboy then wrote the homeowner a note explaining what happened to their flag and then signed the note, “Your Local Deputy!!” While she could have easily signed her name to it or even left one of our business cards with her name on it, Deputy Laboy wasn’t looking for praise, instead, she was simply paying respect to her nation’s flag and taking care of one of our citizens.

I tell folks almost every day that I am surrounded by an amazing team of men and women who knock it out of the park to keep us safe, and Deputy Laboy’s actions are truly an exclamation point on that statement.

Not only does Deputy Laboy serve and protect our community, but she is also an Army Reservist who proudly serves and protects her country as well.

Now that, folks, is the Good Stuff!! Please join me in thanking Deputy Laboy for her patriotic actions and service to our community and country.
