Man Arrested for DUI Manslaughter After Crash Kills Motorcyclist in Melbourne on US-1

Melbourne Police have arrested a man for his role in a fatal crash that killed a motorcyclist on Saturday near Lake Washington Road and North Harbor City Boulevard.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Melbourne police have arrested a man for his role in a fatal crash that killed a motorcyclist on Saturday near Lake Washington Road and North Harbor City Boulevard.

According to the Melbourne Police, officers arrested 36-year-old Tae Schroeder from Melbourne for DUI, DUI Manslaughter, DUI w/Property Damage, and Leaving the Scene of Crash w/SBI or Death.

The motorcycle victim was identified as 47-year-old Justin Jett from Melbourne.

A Melbourne police spokesperson said at approximately 11:57 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, officers responded to the area of Lake Washington Road and North Harbor City Boulevard regarding a vehicle versus motorcycle crash.

Upon arrival, officers discovered that the motorcycle operator had sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash and succumbed to those injuries at the crash scene.

Initial investigation reveals that a 1998 Nissan Maxima was turning right onto southbound North Harbor City Boulevard from eastbound Lake Washington Road when it was struck by a southbound 2002 Yamaha motorcycle.

The Nissan left the scene and was discovered, unoccupied a short distance away. The driver of the Nissan was found walking away from the area a short distance away.

Probable cause was established for the arrest of the driver later identified as Tae Schroeder.
