BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Upperclassmen Varsity Cheerleaders at Astronaut High School are set to participate in this year’s New York City Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Nov. 28.
The team is currently asking for donations due to the cost to travel.
“We have 14 teammates and 2 coaches going and each girl is diligently working to raise funds personally for expenses. However, we need to raise $42,000 as a team. This will cover transportation, rooms, rehearsals, and costuming,” said Thomas Lamb, President Astronaut High School Cheer Boosters.
The girls are excited to represent Astronaut High School, The Titusville/Mims Community and the entire Space Coast.
The team will be in NYC for six days as they rehearse for the parade.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is an annual parade in New York City presented by the U.S.-based department store chain Macy’s.
The Parade first took place in 1924, tying it for the second-oldest Thanksgiving parade in the United States with America’s Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit (with both parades being four years younger than Philadelphia’s Thanksgiving Day Parade).
The three-hour parade is held in Manhattan, ending outside Macy’s Herald Square, and takes place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on Thanksgiving Day, and has been televised nationally on NBC since 1953.
