Florida Tech Panthers Swimming Teams Compete at the Queens Fall Frenzy in North Carolina

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech men’s and women’s swimming team competed in the 800-yard freestyle relay for the first events of the Fall Frenzy hosted by Queens in Charlotte, N.C.
Women’s 800 Free Relay:
The Panthers’ relay team on the women’s side consisted of Abby Briggs, Kate Helminiak, Maja Malarz, and Miranda Olhasso, who posted a combined time of 7:36.42, which was 11th overall in the field. (Briggs: 1.54.38, Helminiak: 1:51.88, Malarz: 1:55.67, Olhasso: 1:54.49).
All four Panthers in the relay posted season-best times in the 200 free.
Women’s Standings Day One:

Men’s 800 Free Relay:
The men’s relay team consisted of Efe Ongoren, Adam Szczerba, Akos Hajagos, and Sebastian Washington, who posted a combined time of 6:37.83, which was good for seventh overall in the field. (Ongoren: 1:38.22, Szczerba: 1:39.93, Hajagos: 1:39.22, Washington: 1:40.46).
Ongoren’s 200 free time of 1:38.22 broke former Panther Luke Altmann’s record set at the Panther Invite last season (1:38.23). Szczerba and Washington both posted season best times in the 200 free as well.

COACHES CORNER:
“It was a good night for us,” said head coach Tony Marleneanu. “I think we were a bit nervous and made a few mistakes, but still good swims on both relays. Efe Ongoren did manage to set a new school record and lowered his NCAA cut time as well, and he will have another chance this weekend to lower that even more.”
