BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools was designated a Purple Star District by the Florida Department of Education, a distinction underscores the district’s commitment to supporting military-connected families.

The designation recognizes schools and districts that provide tailored resources to help military families navigate the challenges of school transitions while ensuring academic, social, and emotional support.

This is the first year school districts have been eligible to achieve this distinction, and Brevard is one of only five districts, out of the state total of 67, to receive the recognition.

A total of 85 Brevard Public Schools schools earned the Purple Star School of Distinction honor this year, joining six existing BPS schools that had already achieved the distinction.

This brings the total to 91 Purple Star Schools, with BPS now holding the highest number of recognized schools in a single district across Florida.

“Like many school districts, we are experiencing a bus driver shortage. With this significant pay increase we believe we will be able to attract new drivers and retain our current drivers,” said Brevard Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell. “The bus driver is the first person many of our students see when they start their school day. This pay increase is a statement that we value these team members and the critical work that they do.” (BPS image)

“We are incredibly proud to be named a Purple Star District and to see our Purple Star Schools grow to 91,” said Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell.

“This recognition reflects our unwavering dedication to the military families in our community. We are committed to ensuring every military-connected student has the support they need to succeed and thrive.”

Brevard Public Schools officials said they were grateful for the invaluable support from Susan Clark, the school liaison with Patrick Space Force Base, whose efforts played a crucial role in ensuring military-connected families have the resources and assistance they need to navigate school transitions.

“This achievement highlights BPS’s efforts to create an inclusive and supportive environment for its large military-connected community, reinforcing its dedication to serving every student with excellence.”
