Cocoa Police Department Flag Flies at Half Mast to Honor Former President Jimmy Carter Who Died at 100

Flags across the nation, including those at the Cocoa Police Department, have been lowered to half-staff to honor the life and legacy of James Earl Carter, Jr., the 39th President of the United States.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — Flags across the nation, including those at the Cocoa Police Department, have been lowered to half-staff beginning December 30 to honor the life and legacy of James Earl Carter, Jr., the 39th President of the United States.

This tribute follows an order by the current President, who has also announced plans for an official state funeral in Washington, D.C., to commemorate Carter’s extraordinary life of service.

Born in Plains, Georgia, Carter served as the 76th Governor of Georgia and a Lieutenant in the United States Navy following his graduation from the United States Naval Academy. Known for his commitment to faith and public service, he dedicated his life to serving God, his country, and his community.

Carter’s presidency, characterized by his focus on human rights, energy reform, and diplomacy, had a lasting impact on the nation and the world. In his later years, he continued to serve through humanitarian efforts, earning the respect and admiration of countless Americans.

The Cocoa Police Department and communities across the country join together in remembrance of a leader and statesman whose full life was devoted to bettering the lives of others. “Our flags fly at half staff beginning today, and continuing for 30 days in honor, remembrance and tribute to James Earl Carter, Jr., 39th President of the United States…who gave his full life in service to God and country,” said a Cocoa police spokesperson.
