Not having health insurance can have long-term devastating health and financial consequences

“Not having health insurance can have long-term devastating health and financial consequences on individuals, especially young and growing families. Trying to cut costs by avoiding monthly premiums could create a crisis should a health emergency arise,” said Health First Health Plan President Matt Gerrell.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Election Day may have passed, but there’s still a very important decision to make—one that directly ties to your wellness and finances…your health insurance coverage for the year ahead.

Open enrollment for selecting an annual health plan on the federal Marketplace or through Health First Health Plans is now underway. If you aren’t already aware of this, you’ll see many advertisements with various information and options very soon.

Many providers and plans are available, and there may be more options than you realize that can meet your needs and budget. Finding the best one for you may require a little research, but it can be well worth the time spent learning more about the topic.

“Not having health insurance can have long-term devastating health and financial consequences on individuals, especially young and growing families. Trying to cut costs by avoiding monthly premiums could create a crisis should a health emergency arise,” said Health First Health Plan President Matt Gerrell.

“Medical costs continue to rise nationally, and paying costs completely out of pocket could create financial strains for decades. Enrolling in a plan can support better health, protect your money, and give you peace of mind.”

While the number of people without health insurance has slightly declined, data shows that over 10% of Floridians don’t have any health insurance. It would be great to see this number continue to drop, as everyone deserves to be protected when it comes to their health and finances.

Fortunately, obtaining health insurance doesn’t have to be complicated or costly.

“Now is the perfect time to dig into the details. If you’re unsure where to start, check out healthcare.gov or contact a local health insurance provider to understand the best plan and pricing for your situation. Remember that in addition to weighing the bottom-line cost and coverage options, it is also important to understand a provider’s performance, medical network, and experience with your community,” Gerrell said.

“Consider open enrollment to be your personal invitation to make the smartest and easiest financial decision this year while also supporting a healthier you regardless of what might come your way.”
