Deputy Postleweight rescued the sea turtle
BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Last week, the Port Ag Marine Units assisted in the rescue of “Tom the Turtle,” who was found lethargic and in distress while swimming in the main port area.
The recent cold weather, which has affected many Floridians, also impacted sea turtles like Tom, leaving them vulnerable to a condition known as “cold-stunning.”
When water temperatures drop suddenly, sea turtles can become hypothermic, causing them to lose mobility and float listlessly, making them susceptible to predators, injuries, or stranding.
Deputy Postleweight successfully rescued “Tom” from the frigid waters, and the Sea Turtle Preservation Society arrived shortly after to provide the necessary care.
Their expertise ensures that cold-stunned turtles like Tom receive the attention they need to recover and return to the wild.
Deputy Postleweight’s efforts in saving this remarkable sea creature are commendable, and gratitude also goes to the Sea Turtle Preservation Society for their ongoing work to ensure the safety and well-being of these beautiful animals, particularly during challenging weather conditions.
