BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The start of a new year means different things to different people. I recently asked community leaders, “What are you most looking forward to in 2025?” There is no right or wrong answer, but it is always interesting to gain the perspective of people from all walks of life.
Enjoy the comments!
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey – “Looking forward to another great year of being part of the best Law Enforcement Agency in the country, working in partnership with our amazing citizens to keep Brevard Safe, and competing in my first Ironman Competition!! Ok, just kidding about the Iron Man Competition but everything else was real!!”

United States Senator Rick Scott – “Throughout my time as Governor of Florida, I fought every day to create a better life for Florida families. Growing up in a family that did not have a lot of money, I watched my parents struggle to find work and provide for our family. My childhood taught me the value of a good job and I have carried that mindset with me throughout my life. My goal as Governor, and now as U.S. Senator is to make Florida the best state in the nation to find a great job, live in a safe community, and receive a world-class education so every family has the opportunity to succeed.”

Janet Petro – Director, John F. Kennedy Space Center – “I think I’m most excited to see Kennedy Space Center support a record-number of launches as we start the year with more than 150 missions on the manifest! In addition to defense and commercial missions, that number also includes NASA’s crewed missions performing vital science aboard the International Space Station, the commercial resupply missions that will support work on the orbiting laboratory, and the science missions that will tell us more about our planet and universe. Kennedy is home to the work that is inspiring innovation and discovery, and this year we’ll oversee the stacking, integration, and testing of the agency’s Space Launch Systems rocket and Orion crew module ahead of Artemis II—the mission that will return humans around the Moon for the first time in more than 50 years! It’s going to be a great year!”

U.S. Congressman Bill Posey – Florida’s 8th Congressional District – “Katie and I are looking forward to NOT getting on airplanes every week and enjoying quality time with our children, grandchildren and new great grandchild. Tim Bobanic – MFCEP, Brevard County Supervisor of Elections – “As I reflect on the momentous year 2024 was, I look forward to what 2025 holds in store not only for me personally, but as a newly elected Supervisor of Elections. While my office will continue our efforts to register new voters in 2025, I look forward to broadening our outreach to stress that each and every vote matters. Over the course of my almost 16 years in elections, I have had two exact ties in an election but 2024 added another tie during the General Election recount for the City Council seat in West Melbourne. This reinforces the need to educate voters about not just being registered but going to the polls to cast their ballot. “Your Vote is Your Voice” is a message my office will continue to share throughout 2025.”

Anja Conklin – Singer/Songwriter – “In 2025, I’m looking forward most to learning more about myself and growing in the direction I want to. I’m looking forward to creating, whether I create in music or acting or something else. I look forward to traveling and experiencing more. I also look forward to spending more time with the people I love.”

Josette Roach – House of Kolor Jet Dragster Driver/Vice President of Race Operations at Larsen Motorsports – “2025 is going to be a big year for myself and the LMS team! For me personally, the most exciting thing I am looking forward to is marrying the love of my life Josh Durham on March 4, 2025! We can’t wait to celebrate with our family and friends. Professionally, I look forward to continue to be primary driver for the House of Kolor Jet Racing Team as we (Larsen Motorsports) just renewed our partnership for 3 more years!!! Be sure to be on the lookout for our 2025 season schedule on LMSjets.com.”

Dr. Terry Spain – Terry Spain Consulting/Sports First Media – “In 2025, I am most looking forward to a world that embodies more peace, unity, and compassion. As global challenges continue to evolve, I hope to see communities coming together, bridging divides, and fostering understanding among diverse cultures and backgrounds. Ultimately, my hope for 2025 is that we can cultivate a global atmosphere where compassion drives our actions, leading to a more harmonious world for everyone.”

David Brubaker – President/CEO, Sharing Center of Central Brevard – “What I am looking forward to in 2025 is spending more time with the ones I love while finding new ways to give back through service. Whether it is through Rotary, my Church, or my work at the Sharing Center, I look forward to making a difference in the lives of others through service.”

Mary Fish – President, American Legion Auxiliary 348 Cape Canaveral – “In 2025, I’m looking forward to continuing my support for local veterans through the American Legion Auxiliary and cheering on my grandchildren and their friends at Cocoa Beach High sporting events, all while working to make our community an even better place to live and work.”

Sherri Brown Cerento – President/Founder, Back Brevard Heroes – “In 2025, I’m looking forward to more great moments with Back Brevard Heroes. We’ll host our 6th First Responder Appreciation Day (Hero Fest) on May 4th, which is especially meaningful to us because it’s the event where it all began. I’m really excited about a new program we are working on that is aimed at supporting upcoming first responders. I’m also looking forward to our 3rd Hot Rods for Heroes Car Show and Craft Fair on Feb 22nd which is always a lot of fun. And of course, I’m looking forward to another year of giving back to our amazing Brevard County First Responders.”

Rodney Greene – President, Brevard Veterans Coalition – “I’m looking forward to serving more Veterans in Brevard County with benefits information, creating community partnerships to help get the information out to as many veterans as possible and be more active in the community through volunteering and mentoring kids.”

Barry Griffiths – President/Director, Sunrise Bank – “I believe 2025 will be a year we look back on and say that was the turning point. Brevard County already had good momentum heading into the year, but I see with the recent progress in technology and tourism, our area’s cruise and space industries will lead the way as Brevard County becomes the centerpiece of Florida’s economic growth and activity. I look forward to providing local businesses and individuals the resources they need to start new or expand existing companies and purchase or construct new homes. While banking regulations will require the large national banks to tighten up their controls, I believe community banks like Sunrise Bank will be able to do what they do best and serve the local community. The future is now and it’s brighter than ever. Stop into our Cocoa Beach location and see what true community banking service is like.”

Brian Dillon – Dillon Digital Video – “Looking forward, at first glance, is a vague and unpredictable endeavor; enter at your own risk! The day ahead of me alone always seems to be a challenging task, with difficulties a certainty, but with many rewards to be gained. Still, carrying that mindset forward, in the year to come I would like to strengthen ALL of my relationships; of most priority with God and my Savior Jesus Christ, and then flowing downward strengthens my relationships starting with my marriage to my wife Debby, my sons Josh, Matt, and Chris, my future daughter-in-law Laney, my extended family including my brother, my Dad, and my in-laws, and my remaining friends and professional acquaintances who have stuck strong with this nearly 60 year old man.
Like many of us, I would assume, in neglecting consistent communication with God in prayer and meditation, I tend to gravitate towards self-focus and self-sufficiency. These are not noble attributes in my humble opinion. In 2025 my biggest goal is draw nearer to and boldly carry Christ wherever I go; taking action to share His love in the workplace and in my community. That will make me a better professional and a better friend. If I come close to accomplishing that, my year will be a success!”

Steve Wilson – Friday Night Locker Room/Space Coast Daily – “I am a big fan of contemporary Christian music. I especially like Sidewalk Prophets. The lead singer, David Frey, is one of the best! He made a comment prior to signing the song, ‘The Comment Section’ that has stuck with me.
While performing at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, Frey said he learned from Mr. Fred Rogers that there are three ways to ultimate success in our lifetime: #1 Be Kind, #2 Be Kind and #3 Be Kind. My hope for 2025 is that we all BE KIND. BE KIND unto another.”
