BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA — It’s not a baseball maneuver or a stacked deli sandwich. Instead, Beethoven’s Triple is a concert of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra’s best, scheduled for Saturday, February 1, at 7 p.m. at the Satellite High School Performing Arts Center, 300 Scorpion Court in Satellite Beach.
The all-star program opens with the world premiere of Vero Beach composer R. Michael Daugherty’s joyous Concerto for B-flat Clarinet and String Orchestra, featuring the SCSO’s Principal Clarinetist, Jennifer Royals.
A lush work by Space Coast Symphony conductor Aaron T. Collins follows. Scenes for String Orchestra was a composition Collins wrote while attending the Film, TV, and Game Scoring Program in Los Angeles in 1996.
Imagined as a short film score, the multi-movement work was premiered by the Charlotte Symphony the following year. The dramatic piece is a nod to famed film composer Bernard Herrmann, featuring seven imaginary scenes, each with a unique character.
The second half of the program features Beethoven’s Concerto for Violin, Cello, and Piano in C major, commonly known as the “Triple” Concerto.
Composed in 1803, it is the only concerto Beethoven ever completed for more than one solo instrument –and the only concerto he wrote for cello. Three extraordinary soloists take to the stage to perform the musically challenging work characterized as both soulful and charming.
Concert pianist, Lindsay Garritson returns to perform Beethoven’s Triple. Garritson was last featured with the SCSO in 2023, where she performed to audience acclaim for her interpretation of Rachmaninoff’s fearsome Piano Concerto No. 2. Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster, Carey Moorman, is one of two Moormans performing the work, sharing the spotlight with cellist son, Isaac.
Isaac is Principal Cellist for the SCSO as well as Assistant Principal Cellist for the Orlando Philharmonic, where father Carey also performs regularly with the first violins.
Together, the “triple” musicians function as a piano trio for Beethoven’s one-of-a-kind work. $35 tickets for Beethoven’s Triple are available through the orchestra website at or at Marine Bank & Trust in Suntree.
Tickets at the door are $40. Concertgoers aged 18 and under or with a college ID are admitted free to every SCSO concert. For more information about Beethoven’s Triple, call toll free to 855-252-7276 or CLICK HERE.
Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Conductor and Artistic Director, Aaron T. Collins is delighted to showcase extraordinary music and the orchestra’s talented musicians during Beethoven’s Triple.
“This concert really demonstrates the depth of talent we have within our orchestra,” said Collins. “We have three of our principal players in solo roles and incredible music written centuries apart. In addition, we are welcoming back pianist Lindsay Garritson, who never fails to wow the audience with her artistry.”
The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra is one of only a handful of U.S. orchestras to perform year-round.
