PUBLIC SERVICE: Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Laura Moody Takes Oath of Office

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Judge David Koenig administered the oath of office earlier this month to Circuit Judge Laura Moody in Courtroom 3-B at the Moore Justice Center with Moody’s husband, Jim, holding the Bible.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Moody to serve as judge on the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit Court as she fills the judicial vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Nancy Maloney.
Moody worked as Chief Legal Counsel of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office from July 2019 to January 2025, after serving as an Assistant State Attorney at the Office of the State Attorney, 18th Judicial Circuit, from 2007 through 2019.
At the Office of the State Attorney, she served as a Felony Trial Division Chief, Elder and Economic Crimes Division Chief, and Trial Attorney.

As Chief Legal Counsel for the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Moody oversaw the Legal Services Unit, which was responsible for litigating asset forfeitures, risk protection orders, public records, and other matters on behalf of Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey and his staff.
Moody prepared policy, procedure, legislative, and case law updates, legislative proposals, and contracts and conducted training for law enforcement and the community regarding criminal justice matters. She interfaced with the Office of the State Attorney, Judiciary, and other components of the local criminal justice system.
