Two Children Die in Palm Bay Fire on Sunnybrook Lane, Adult Critically Injured

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Early this morning at approximately 12:40 a.m., Palm Bay Fire Rescue responded to multiple reports of an apartment fire in the 1600 block of Sunnybrook Lane in Northeast Palm Bay.
Initial reports indicated that several individuals were trapped inside the burning structure.
As fire crews rushed to the scene, assistance was requested from Melbourne and Malabar Fire Departments, Brevard County Fire Rescue, and Palm Bay Police Department to aid in the emergency response.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames engulfing a second-floor apartment, with multiple surrounding units at risk. Acting swiftly, crews launched an aggressive attack on the fire, successfully containing it and preventing its spread to seven adjacent units.
Search teams entered the burning apartment and rescued three individuals.
Despite immediate medical assistance, a 10-year-old child was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. A 5-year-old child and a 32-year-old adult were transported in critical condition to Holmes Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Orlando Regional’s burn center for specialized care.
Sadly, the 5-year-old later succumbed to their injuries, while the adult remains in critical condition.
A 15-year-old occupant managed to escape the fire unharmed and is currently staying with family members.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office has launched a detailed investigation into the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined at this time.
Palm Bay Fire Rescue expressed its deepest condolences to the affected family, emphasizing the profound impact of this heartbreaking tragedy.
